Psycho Monkey Tattoos

AFTERCARE INFO

Your artist spent time making that tattoo look good.  The least you can do is take care of it.

Healing time varies from one person to the next but in general, your new tattoo should heal with 7-10 days.

Yes!  The skin is going through a period of healing.  DO NOT scratch at your new tattoo, and DO NOT pick at any scabs that form, otherwise you could damage the artwork underneath.

NO!  You should avoid sunburn as UV rays may damage the fresh ink.  Also make sure to avoid contact with salt and chlorine (pool water), hot tubs, saunas and steam baths until your new artwork is fully healed.

Are you still using antibiotic ointment?  After three days, you should switch to a fragrence-free lotion, or one of the specialist tattoo aftercare products available.  Whatever you use, make sure you don't over-apply - a thin layer applied 2-4 times a day should be sufficient.

  1.   Treat your new tattoo like an open wound. Keep it clean.  Do not touch healing tattoos with dirty hands, and before cleaning the area, wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
  2.  Very carefully remove the dressing, making sure not to damage the skin beneath.
  3.  Using a mild soap and cool water, gently and carefully cleanse the area and pat it dry.  DO NOT rub the area with a wash cloth or towel.
  4.  Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the tattoo.  Bepanthum is good, and we also recommend Fougera ointment (available for purchase at Psycho Monkey).
  5.  Repeat application of ointment 2-4 times a day for the first two days, and then switch to a fragrence-free lotion, or one of the specialist tattoo aftercare products avilable.  (We recomend products by the Tattoo Aftercare company, available for purchase at Psycho Monkey.)
  6.  Continue applying a thin layer of lotion 2-4 times a day, for the next two weeks.  Healing usually takes between 7-10 days depending on the size of the tattoo.
  7.  As your skin heals, expect peeling like sun-burned skin.  Itching is to be expected, and can be quite intense - DO NOT scratch the tattoo (if the itching is severe, light slaps to sting the area are advised).
  8.  Avoid sunburn, salt and chlorine (pool water), hot tubs, saunas and steam baths while the tattoo is healing.
  9.  Above all, DO NOT PICK AT SCABS and DO NOT SCRATCH THE TATTOO!

If you have any queries or concerns about the healing process, please do not hesitate to contact us for further advice.  A tattoo touch-up is generally done free of charge, providing the aftercare instructions have been carefully adhered to.
